Profile

Head of Economics (2007-2010)
Sub Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences (2000-2002)

Qualifications

BA (Econ) (Manchester), PhD (Liverpool)

Course development and teaching

Spearheaded, as production course chair, two multi-million pound Open University projects: Understanding economic behaviour (D319), launched in 1998 and Personal investment in an uncertain world (DB234), launched in 2010.

Research interests

Two main current areas of activity. First, a theoretical interest in the multisectoral foundations and interfaces between Marxian, Post Keynesian and Sraffian economics; including the labour theory of value, theories of growth and reproduction, the principle of effective demand and money circuit theory. Second, theoretical and empirical research into the evolutionary economics and sociology of consumption, with particular emphasis on the work of Pierre Bourdieu and the relationship between cultural and economic capital.
