The Centre

  • Encourages and supports the development of interdisciplinary research programmes designed to enhance our understanding of the relations between culture and society relevant to the changing circumstances of modern Britain. 
  • Is active in pursuit of external funding to support the growth of its activities. 
  • Enriches the intellectual life of research higher degree students involved in the pursuit of social and cultural research. 
  • Provides scholarships and prizes to promote and recognize outstanding achievements by both undergraduate and postgraduate students. 
  • Contributes to the development of national and international research networks to facilitate the sharing of research expertise and information. 
  • Disseminates the results of its research activities by means of publications, lectures, broadcasting and through its website. 
  • Serves as a forum for debate by organizing seminars, workshops, symposia and conferences on diverse aspects of the relations between culture and society.
