Mental health and me

Join us for a free event to explore mental health and living with a mental health condition. This free event follows OU/BBC co-production ‘Psychosis and Me’, which featured actor David Harewood and his journey with psychosis, but will discuss a range of mental health conditions.

We're working with mental health champions and voluntary organisations, Mind Cymru and Hafal. You'll have an opportunity to listen to a range of speakers discussing mental health experiences in Wales from various viewpoints. You'll also hear from OU academic, Dr Sarah Vicary, who worked on the OU/BBC co-production.

This event looks to raise awareness of mental health conditions, challenge stigma, and discuss future action that needs to be taken to support people with their mental health.

What to expect

  • Using exclusive clips from the documentary, Dr Sarah Vicary will talk about mental health following her involvement in the award-nominated ‘Psychosis and Me’. Sarah will also explore instances of prejudice at point of diagnosis and the stigma associated with mental health conditions.
  • You will hear from mental health champions living in Wales. These individuals will tell their personal stories from diagnosis to treatment, to everyday life with a mental health condition.
  • Judith Davies, Head of Social Work (Wales) at The Open University, will look back over her extensive professional experience and discuss how we all have a responsibility to promote good mental health. Judith has a wealth of experience in Social Services, the Voluntary Sector, the NHS and as a Senior Manager in Mental Health Strategy Development.

Mind Cymru and Hafal's involvement in this event is part of the Time to Change Wales collaboration campaign.

Tickets are free, but booking is essential. Click here to book.
