The Open University in Wales has paired up with Dark Sky Wales for this spectacular space event.

What to expect

You will learn about the stars and our solar system across two fascinating talks:

  • Open University academics who worked behind the scenes of the current BBC series: The Planets, will delve deeper into the science behind our solar system from Godfather planets to icy moons and the changing climate of Mars.
  • Dark Sky Wales astronomy experts will take you through our milky way in their digital planetarium. You will be guided mythological tour of the skies and explore the modern cosmos including galaxies and nebula.

After the talks we will help you spot planets in the night’s sky and stargaze using specialist telescopes in one of the world’s few dark sky reserves. You will be able to navigate your way around constellations of the northern hemisphere using expert guidance and star maps.

Hot drinks, cake, biscuits and a great atmosphere.

Tickets are free, but don’t miss out, booking is essential: https://planets-planedau.eventbrite.co.uk

Important information

Please note that stargazing is subject to visibility, weather conditions and dark skies. This means that this event is late at night and may finish after midnight.

This event might be in summer, but we are still in Wales. We’ve got the hot drinks ready for you but please make sure you bring layers to wrap up warm and wear sensible closed toe shoes as stargazing experience can still be cold.
