Youth enterprise and entrepreneurship project

EntrepreneursAt The Open University in Wales we are helping our students to take their ideas, hobbies and passions and turn them into businesses.

We are working with the Welsh Government, businesses and other universities to support our students to develop their entrepreneurial skills.

We are offering OU students aged between 18 and 30 the opportunity to receive support and guidance on how to develop their ideas into Wales’ next generation of start-up businesses.

What’s on offer to budding entrepreneurs?

We have a range of learning materials which can support the development of entrepreneurial skills and social enterprises, including:

  • Rural entrepreneurship in Wales – This unit will help you to: explore the feasibility of a business idea; plan a strategy for the development of your company; state the likely resources and capabilities required for your new business and understand where the gaps are likely to occur
  • Entrepreneurial Impressions – Take a closer look at the entrepreneurial individual and reflect on whether this might be you or not.
  • Entrepreneurial behaviour – An opportunity to consider and reflect on the personal aspects involved in transforming an innovative idea into an entrepreneurial product
  • Investigating entrepreneurial opportunities – This module addresses the crucial first steps related to developing new business ideas, implementing innovations and launching new ventures
  • FutureLearn – There are a range of courses available on FutureLearn which look specifically at the skills needed to develop social as well as profit-based businesses.
  • Open University Careers and Employability service – Has a range of resources, support and guidance on planning your career and future successes.

Alongside our educational materials, we are offering students involved in the scheme tailored advice and guidance on starting a business.
