OU in Wales Student “Highest Achiever” at Business School awards

An OU in Wales student from Pembrokeshire has received an award for his achievements while studying for a Professional Certificate in Management. Luke Lenton, who works for Care & Repair, a charity assisting older and disabled people in West Wales, received the 2016 Highest Achiever Student Award at the annual OUBS Student and Alumni awards Ceremony.

The special ceremony was held at The Open University in Milton Keynes, where Luke received his award and was congratulated by Professor Rebecca Taylor, Executive Dean of The Open University Business School, who said:

“All of the winners have an exceptional story to tell about their life-changing learning experience and we are incredibly proud, as a Business School, to recognise their achievements and to celebrate the success of our vibrant and growing student and alumni communities. I wish all the winners my warmest congratulations on their achievements and every success for their future endeavours.”

Luke has previously studied with The Open University and successfully obtained a degree in English Language and Literature. Wanting to enhance his skills and employability further, Luke chose to study for the Professional Certificate in Management, with the ultimate aim of progressing in his career from a supervisory role to establishing a management position.

The quality of programmes provided by The Open University is underpinned by the latest leading-edge research and profound teaching and learning methods taking education right to the heart of leadership and management practice. This was reflected in Luke’s experience as this particular course offered the opportunity to interact with an international learning community. This enabled Luke to work closely and share experiences with students from across the UK, USA, Europe and Asia.

Having already achieved so much, Luke’s next aspiration is to use his OU experience to help him to progress into a managerial position and to lead the way by providing an entrepreneurial and innovative approach to a similar third sector organisation.
