John Pettit received OU Teaching Award.
A 'Synthesis' Event was organized within IET's Research and Scholarship Portfolio. This brought together 25 members of IET to review 15 recent externally funded projects, in order to share best practices in methods, outcomes and strategies for impact, and to build on past achievements when creating new projects.

Jan Parker has been appointed External Referee by The Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf) for its 2007-10 Consensus Study
Chris Pegler presented at and chaired five sessions at OER11, Manchester (11-12 May)
New initiatives
We have received notification that the MASELTOV proposal has been funded by the EU (FP7-ICT), in response to Challenge 5 - ICT for Smart and Personalised Inclusion. The 3-year project has 15 European partners and will be concerned with Social Inclusion and Empowerment of Immigrants through use of mobile and persuasive learning technologies and social network services. The OU lead is Agnes Kukulska-Hulme, who will be working on the project with Eileen Scanlon and Ann Jones. MASELTOV will be managed within IET's Next Generation Distance Learning Programme.
ORIOLE (Open Resources: Influence on Learners and Educators) project was launched at OER11. This project is funded in its first phase by Chris Pegler's National Teaching felliowship. As part of its initial activity an online survey has been generated (c.150 responses to date).

- Lillian Buus, a PhD student from the e-learning Lab at Aalborg University in Denmark who also works in ELSA, Aalborg University's E-Learning Unit. 3rd - 27th May.
Three OLnet/TESSA Fellows are visiting in May (from 16/05 to 27/05). These are:
- Mrs Juliana Bbuye - Lecturer at Makerere University, Uganda - Skills for suitable and successful use of OER: A case study of TESSA materials in use in primary schools of Uganda
- Dr Dele Yaya - National Teachers Institute, Nigeria -Sustainable and successful use of OER in the Programmes of the National Teachers’ Institute
- Prof Fred Keraro - Professor at Egerton University, Kenya -The readiness for sustainable and successful use of OER in Higher Education in Kenya:a case study of Egerton University
