1. Round table updates
- Liam has implemented a panels approach to how to display the information from the website. Also set up organic groups. Also need to discuss relationships - e.g. twitter follower v facebook friend. Need to determine labels.
- Elpida Makriyannis: more evidence for the research on layers in use of content in social networks. Gave talk at ESRC seminar for sustainable development project [need to log this information]. Can research community be hosted on OLnet? Head of DEFRA Behaviour unit also after own area for discussion of research and considering developing use of collective intelligence (cohere) over more conventional survey approaches. Initially considering "closed" areas for their work as afraid of the effects of openness - would need ways to address vandalism/preservation. Willing to join research networks over joining in with more general use of the internet. Issues of terms and conditions. DEFRA asked if they can use cohere to build a session for UK respondents to a survey to offer open ideas on climate change. Commissioner liked the idea of collective intelligence - especially debategraph. Would like report mapped onto debategraph. Travel to Copenhagen - overlap with planned presentation 16th December. Perhaps climate change is not the best topic for balanced debate as there is now a well accepted position. Bringing in communities where they exist could help meet the need to have active communities in OLnet. Further example of lecturer who wishes to extend use beyond of reference by class beyond wikipedia.
- Nick - will need to carry out an update of the website.
- Engin - desk research. Will carry out interviews of instructors in Turkey - probing the difficulties that they face. Find out more information about the experiences. Contact will be through the project leaders and technical developers.
- Andreia Santos: developing proposal on finding people with an interest in OER. What could help people to start - bring people in to support community building. Tendency for academic groups to flow from offline to online.
- Karen: talk about the OU research strategy led by Brigid Heywood. Establishing ORO Knowledge to help establish impact measures via analysis of data. This data may help us to understand use of OER papers. Met with Andy Lane and Paul Mundin - which has an established approach for recording activities. Alternative is to prepare a two page report every month with interesting links prepared to allow reflection and sharing. Write a narrative or one page.
- Anna met with research group in Stockholm. Studying new technologies to support thesis writing. What is the different skill set that should be taught to move towards knowledge creation. New technology for teaching and learning new approaches to thesis.
- Michelle 2.0 alpha of Compendium tomorrow - there will be a flash based replacement for the insert for cohere - joint between Jeff/Michelle. Integration of Compendium into the unbuntu package is being investigated.
