How to join
From ouchoir
Singers wishing to take part in the Choir’s activities should contact the director, Bill Strang, on extn 52659 or email W.Strang@open.ac.uk.
The OU Choir contains singers with a wide range of abilities, from those who have been singing in choirs all their lives to those who have not sung for many years since they were at school. There are no formal auditions, but Bill nevertheless finds it useful to meet new members for a brief rehearsal of their own when they join the choir. To facilitate this, the Membership Secretary will set up a short induction meeting about 3 or 4 weeks after new members first attend, so that Bill can find out how they are managing.
There is a subscription, currently set at £15.00, payable annually during the Autumn Term when the AGM is held.
You may wish to go to our rehearsal schedules page to gain an idea of times and frequency of our rehearsals.
The choir is open to all members of staff and to OU students and is currently able to welcome new external sopranos, tenors and basses.
We encourage new members to join as near the beginning of a term as possible. In the 2011-12 season the terms will begin on 8 September, 5 January and 19 April. Unless there are exceptional circumstances we prefer not to accept new members after halfway through the preparation period for a performance. For the autumn term 2011, this would mean not after 13 October. For spring 2012, not after 9 February. And for the summer, not after 17 May.
