All those applying for and accepting a Staff Tutor role should note that:
A key responsibility of the Staff Tutor role is the supervision, coordination and training of the Associate Lecturers who deliver the tutorial function for OU students. It is important therefore that all Staff Tutors are aware that in Autumn 2018 new and enhanced Associate Lecturer terms and conditions of employment (“New Terms”) were negotiated and agreed with the Trade Union. Associate Lecturer union members confirmed their acceptance of these New Terms when balloted in January 2019. As a result of this all employed Associate Lecturers will transition to the New Terms in due course. The timescale for this change is not yet fully confirmed but the current implementation plan indicates that it will be Autumn 2021, dependent on the necessary IT systems being developed.
These changes for Associate Lecturers are likely to mean that some aspects of the duties carried out under the Staff Tutor role under Appendix 2B of the current terms will necessarily evolve, however the Academic terms and conditions offered to Staff Tutors (grade and hours etc) will remain unchanged.
