The Open University and Santander Universities

Santander Universities Division was founded in 1996 by Emilio Botin, Chairman of Santander who was keen that the bank should make a positive contribution to the communities in which it operated.  He believed that a University is the cornerstone of any community, and provides a mechanism that helps people and businesses prospect.  Consequently, Santander Universities was created and began its activities in Spain.

As the division began to grow so did its global reach – expanding into more than 20 countries, including Brazil, Mexico. Argentina. Portugal and the UK.

The Open University signed an agreement with Santander Universities in 2007 to set up scholarships for academics and students and to participate in its International Fellowship Programme.
