Previous conferences

Members of the research group participate in a range of international conferences. Forthcoming panels organised by members of the group can be seen under the Events tab.

The OU Literature and Music Research Group hosted the ninth international conference of the WMA, Silence, Absence and Ellipsis in Words and Music, in London in August 2013. Other international conferences, on Music and Literature in the 19th and 20th centuries and on Literature and Music in the Study of Culture, were hosted under the then Musics and Cultures Research. A conference on Purcell, Handel and Literature was held in November, 2009 and and an interdisciplinary symposium on Don Juan in September 2011.

Members of the Literature and Music Research Group have previously run two international conferences, resulting in the publication Phrase and Subject: Studies in Literature and Music and Literature and Music: Interdisciplinary Research and Teaching at The Open University.

Members of the OU Literature and Music Research Group contribute to a number of related conferences outside the OU. Several members of the Research Group are also members of the International Words and Music Association, whose most recent conference "Make It Old: Retro Forms and Styles in Literature and Music" was held in Graz, Austria in June 2019.
