Organizational Learning Analytics (Yoram Kalman)

Presenter: Dr Yoram Kalman (OU Israel)

Organizational Learning Analytics

In this talk I will present my work-in-progress in collaboration with my doctoral candidate, Ronie Navon. Our work is focused on developing a new theoretical framework of organizational learning analytics for higher education. Our motivation for this project is a conviction that current learning analytics extract only a fraction of the potential utility of the data produced and collected in higher education institutions (HEIs). Our proposed framework aims to extend the usage of learning analytics to measure and promote better teaching and learning throughout the HEI. In particular, this framework will facilitate expanding the scope of learning analytics beyond the classroom. We propose a framework that will help identify and explore managerial and strategic decisions that impact the quality of teaching and learning in higher education, and that can be better informed by evidence created using learning analytics. In the talk I will describe our goals and rationale, describe our early version of the model, and our plans for further developing the model and testing it in the field. This is work-in-progress so we look forward for feedback and input from both those of you who are deeply acquainted with learning analytics research, as well as from those who are simply users or potential users of learning analytics.
