{"id":1799,"date":"2011-09-22T09:07:58","date_gmt":"2011-09-22T08:07:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/History-of-the-OU\/?p=1799"},"modified":"2012-07-10T11:37:23","modified_gmt":"2012-07-10T10:37:23","slug":"pillar-of-wisdom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/History-of-the-OU\/?p=1799","title":{"rendered":"Pillar of wisdom"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Milton Keynes council has commissioned a new war memorial to commemorate those who died in battle.\u00a0 There has been speculation that the memorial which is to feature pillars and at ground level, an image of a rose, might also commemorate both those killed on the local roads and according to the <em>Milton Keynes Citizen<\/em>\u00a0 on 22nd September, those who gained degrees at the OU.\u00a0 According to the local council Minutes &#8216;spend <a href=\"http:\/\/cmis.milton-keynes.gov.uk\/CmisWebPublic\/\/Binary.ashx?Document=33410\" onclick=\"javascript:urchinTracker ('\/outbound\/article\/cmis.milton-keynes.gov.uk');\">approval <\/a>for the MK Rose Cenotaph project&#8217; was\u00a0granted by the <a href=\"http:\/\/cmis.milton-keynes.gov.uk\/CmisWebPublic\/Binary.ashx?Document=33290\" onclick=\"javascript:urchinTracker ('\/outbound\/article\/cmis.milton-keynes.gov.uk');\">Cabinet\u00a0<\/a>on 6th September. Former OU employee Councillor Sam Crooks, the Lib Dem leader felt &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/cmis.milton-keynes.gov.uk\/CmisWebPublic\/Binary.ashx?Document=33509\" onclick=\"javascript:urchinTracker ('\/outbound\/article\/cmis.milton-keynes.gov.uk');\">u<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/cmis.milton-keynes.gov.uk\/CmisWebPublic\/Binary.ashx?Document=33509\" onclick=\"javascript:urchinTracker ('\/outbound\/article\/cmis.milton-keynes.gov.uk');\">nable<\/a> to support proposed expenditure&#8217;. The <a href=\"http:\/\/trustmk.com\/cenotaph_trust.html\" onclick=\"javascript:urchinTracker ('\/outbound\/article\/trustmk.com');\">Cenotaph Trust <\/a>is backing the idea of what is being called the MK Rose.
