The first programme was broadcast\u00a0in January 1971, a <a href=\"http:\/\/www8.open.ac.uk\/researchprojects\/historyofou\/story\/first-students-and-first-graduates\" >clip <\/a>of which is available on the History of the OU website.\u00a0Latterly there have been co-productions, right up to the present day with the new <em>Symphony <\/em>co-production between the BBC and the OU. For each of the four episodes, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/openlearn\/whats-on\/ou-on-the-bbc-history-the-symphony\" >OpenLearn<\/a> will feature an article from a member of the OU\u2019s music department, extending the scope of the series. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/History-of-the-OU\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/TVC1154-8.jpg\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-2003\" title=\"TVC1154-8\" src=\"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/History-of-the-OU\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/TVC1154-8-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>The format may have changed but some of the people have not. David Attenborough was Controller of BBC 2 at the time of The Open University&#8217;s launch and his latest programme, <em>Frozen Planet<\/em>, also has OU involvement.
