This was our first experience of a live streamed event, but we all thoroughly enjoyed it. We were joined by Kath Woodward and Elizabeth Silva and the session was expertly hosted by Karen Foley.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/OU-Sport\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/image7.jpeg\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1217\" src=\"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/OU-Sport\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/image7-300x225.jpeg\" alt=\"image\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/OU-Sport\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/image7-300x225.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/OU-Sport\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/image7-624x468.jpeg 624w, https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/OU-Sport\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/image7.jpeg 952w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>On our arrival we were delighted to see that the green room was well stocked with tasty treats, possibly as an incentive to take a green room selfie!<\/p>\n<p>We then participated in a short <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/theopenuniversity\/videos\/10154551647990676\/?pnref=story\" target=\"_blank\" >Facebook live video<\/a>\u00a0talking about what we would cover in the session. This helped us to overcome some of our nerves about the main event and we were impressed how many students watched the video. As well as looking at exercise as a treatment for mental health conditions, the session looked at the incidence of depression in elite athletes.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/OU-Sport\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/image6.jpeg\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1216\" src=\"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/OU-Sport\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/image6-225x300.jpeg\" alt=\"image\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/OU-Sport\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/image6-225x300.jpeg 225w, https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/OU-Sport\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/image6-768x1024.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/OU-Sport\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/image6-624x832.jpeg 624w, https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/OU-Sport\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/image6.jpeg 1536w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a>The session concluded with an interesting discussion about gender and the Olympics with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/people\/kaw3\" target=\"_blank\" >Kath Woodward<\/a> who challenged the audience\u00a0to consider whether traditional views of gender are too narrow.<\/p>\n<p>The Student Hub Live Olympics Special provided us with a great opportunity to interact with students and share our knowledge on sports related topics.
