Freshers – the first step on a new and exciting journey!

Isabella Henman is a tutor and skills trainer with the Open University. She tutors in science and health sciences from Access to level 2 and has been the main presenter of the Student Hub Live online workshops since they began in 2017.

 

 

 

I still remember my 1st Freshers week at Medical school, rather longer ago now then I would like to mention! It was very much a traditional Freshers week, being focused around social activities and a lot of alcohol. Creative Notetaking: Why it works for me

The idea of a formal essay fills me with dread! I find it difficult to present information that way, it’s like my brain doesn’t work in words, sentences, and paragraphs. My brain does work in lines, squiggles, doodles and colours- so the technique of creative notetaking works for me. Continue reading

Looking back, whilst looking forward

I feel at this point of the year I am still looking back as much as I am looking forward, and I’m about to come to a big milestone: it is almost a year for OU colleagues like myself since we packed up our desks, created new offices in kitchens, lounges and bedrooms, switched on our cameras and started working from home, although I know this is a way of working so many of our tutors and students have already embraced.
