{"id":118,"date":"2017-03-21T12:39:04","date_gmt":"2017-03-21T12:39:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/design\/?p=118"},"modified":"2018-01-08T21:18:26","modified_gmt":"2018-01-08T21:18:26","slug":"openstudio-shortlisted-for-guardian-university-award-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/design\/openstudio-shortlisted-for-guardian-university-award-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"OpenStudio Shortlisted for Guardian University Award 2017 !"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>OpenStudio has been shortlisted for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/higher-education-network\/2017\/mar\/07\/the-judges-decision-finalists-for-the-guardian-university-awards-2017\" target=\"_blank\" >2017 Guardian University Award in the Digital Innovation <\/a>category.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/design\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/OS2_002.jpg\" ><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-119 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/design\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/OS2_002.jpg\" alt=\"OS2_002\" width=\"978\" height=\"674\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/design\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/OS2_002.jpg 978w, https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/design\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/OS2_002-300x206.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 978px) 100vw, 978px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>OpenDesignStudio first appeared way back in 2008 in the module <a href=\"http:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/library\/digital-archive\/module\/xcri:T189\/study\" target=\"_blank\" >T189: Digital Photography<\/a> module and was then re-purposed for the first presentation of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/courses\/modules\/u101\" target=\"_blank\" >U101: Design Thinking<\/a>, as an online design studio and portfolio tool, where the use of it demonstrated the significant benefit to students of design at a distance.<\/p>\n<p>Subsequently, OpenStudio was developed as a Univesrity-wide online learning tool, to fit into OU systems and making it easier to blend into the overall learning design.<\/p>\n<p>Nicole, Georgy and myself are working on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/about\/teaching-and-learning\/esteem\/projects\/themes\/technologies-stem-learning\/are-we-making-progress-progression-through-learners%E2%80%99\" target=\"_blank\" >eSTeEM project Are we Making Progress<\/a>, researching the use of OpenStudio across all levels of study at the OU. You can find some preliminary results here: <a href=\"http:\/\/oro.open.ac.uk\/43592\/\" target=\"_blank\" >http:\/\/oro.open.ac.uk\/43592\/<\/a> (watch this space for a full write up some time in June. Maybe. \ud83d\ude42 ).<\/p>\n<p>But a final shout out has to go to the people that actually make OpenStudio work &#8211; students and tutors!<\/p>\n<p>In all the shouting it&#8217;s easy to forget that the technical and system solutions we have are just that &#8211; they simply don&#8217;t work without people (read Foucault and Latour!!).<\/p>\n<p>So thank you to everyone past, present and future who has made OpenStudio a success.<\/p>\n<p>The award ceremony is on Wednesday 29 March 2017.
