Merging software projects and the completed work, after working individually.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-2mqir\" class=\"-Zro6 -ZADH SQnmu AnCKd _57WYp\"><span class=\"d0767\">2. Working in serial and exporting work<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-29k68\" class=\"-Zro6 -ZADH SQnmu AnCKd _57WYp\"><span class=\"d0767\">3. Highlight text or illustrations throughout the document to comment on them.<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"-Zro6 -ZADH IjV6v AnCKd _57WYp\">The ability to annotate PDFs, or at least open in a PDF reader that will, without having to download the file, annotate, and upload.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p id=\"viewer-cfakg\" class=\"-Zro6 -ZADH IjV6v AnCKd _57WYp\"><span class=\"d0767\">Google, Asana, Trello<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-e88vo\" class=\"-Zro6 -ZADH IjV6v AnCKd _57WYp\"><span class=\"d0767\"><strong>2.Ways to collaborate in NVivo<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-62uhr\" class=\"-Zro6 -ZADH IjV6v AnCKd _57WYp\"><span class=\"d0767\">Many projects involve multiple researchers working together\u2014NVivo provides two ways to approach collaboration:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"xErDo AnCKd\">\n<li class=\"_04hd2 IjV6v\" dir=\"auto\">\n<div>\n<p id=\"viewer-7i7er\" class=\"-Zro6 -ZADH IjV6v AnCKd _57WYp\"><span class=\"d0767\">Share projects using NVivo Server\u2014this is the best solution for team work since everyone in your team can work on the same project at the same time. They can code, annotate and link source content and have immediate access to the changes made by other team members.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"_04hd2 IjV6v\" dir=\"auto\">\n<div>\n<p id=\"viewer-4jbd8\" class=\"-Zro6 -ZADH IjV6v AnCKd _57WYp\"><span class=\"d0767\">Work in copies of a standalone project and merge them into a master project at appropriate intervals\u2014making use of user profiles to track changes.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p id=\"viewer-aadv5\" class=\"-Zro6 -ZADH IjV6v AnCKd _57WYp\"><span class=\"d0767\">While teams offer higher productivity and a richer perspective, they also present a number of management challenges. Early in a project it is important to determine the approach your team will take to:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"xErDo AnCKd\">\n<li class=\"_04hd2 IjV6v\" dir=\"auto\">\n<div>\n<p id=\"viewer-8gonm\" class=\"-Zro6 -ZADH IjV6v AnCKd _57WYp\"><span class=\"d0767\">Collecting and organizing data<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"_04hd2 IjV6v\" dir=\"auto\">\n<div>\n<p id=\"viewer-1ihq2\" class=\"-Zro6 -ZADH IjV6v AnCKd _57WYp\"><span class=\"d0767\">Creating and cataloguing themes and topics (the node structure)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"_04hd2 IjV6v\" dir=\"auto\">\n<div>\n<p id=\"viewer-13v0j\" class=\"-Zro6 -ZADH IjV6v AnCKd _57WYp\"><span class=\"d0767\">Coding the data<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p id=\"viewer-b771j\" class=\"-Zro6 -ZADH IjV6v AnCKd _57WYp\"><span class=\"d0767\"><a class=\"TWoY9 itht3\" href=\"http:\/\/help-nv11.qsrinternational.com\/desktop\/concepts\/Strategies_for_teamwork.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Top of Page<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-8u7bt\" class=\"-Zro6 -ZADH IjV6v AnCKd _57WYp\"><span class=\"d0767\"><strong>3.Managing Teamwork<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-5lbnn\" class=\"-Zro6 -ZADH IjV6v AnCKd _57WYp\"><span class=\"d0767\">Whether you work with NVivo Server or collaborate in a standalone project you might want to consider the following:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"xErDo AnCKd\">\n<li class=\"_04hd2 IjV6v\" dir=\"auto\">\n<div>\n<p id=\"viewer-e6ha7\" class=\"-Zro6 -ZADH IjV6v AnCKd _57WYp\"><span class=\"d0767\">Appoint a team leader who will keep the team on track and make final coding decisions.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"_04hd2 IjV6v\" dir=\"auto\">\n<div>\n<p id=\"viewer-epc73\" class=\"-Zro6 -ZADH IjV6v AnCKd _57WYp\"><span class=\"d0767\">Have regular team meetings to discuss interpretations, address issues and assign tasks\u2014record the outcomes in a memo.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"_04hd2 IjV6v\" dir=\"auto\">\n<div>\n<p id=\"viewer-dst8f\" class=\"-Zro6 -ZADH IjV6v AnCKd _57WYp\"><span class=\"d0767\">Have each team member keep a memo to record their progress, including any hunches, suggestions or questions\u2014you could also do this in a single \u2018teamwork journal\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"_04hd2 IjV6v\" dir=\"auto\">\n<div>\n<p id=\"viewer-3vvpa\" class=\"-Zro6 -ZADH IjV6v AnCKd _57WYp\"><span class=\"d0767\">Early on, have multiple team members code the same collection of sources, then compare coding (using coding stripes or a Coding Comparison query)\u2014this can help ensure a consistent approach.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"_04hd2 IjV6v\" dir=\"auto\">\n<div>\n<p id=\"viewer-5mgkv\" class=\"-Zro6 -ZADH IjV6v AnCKd _57WYp\"><span class=\"d0767\">To start with, make a node hierarchy for each team member. After team discussion, you can refine, merge and reorganize.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"_04hd2 IjV6v\" dir=\"auto\">\n<div>\n<p id=\"viewer-m1c8\" class=\"-Zro6 -ZADH IjV6v AnCKd _57WYp\"><span class=\"d0767\">Aim for a clear node structure and use descriptions (in node properties) to make the purpose of a node clear for all team members.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"_04hd2 IjV6v\" dir=\"auto\">\n<div>\n<p id=\"viewer-3gvat\" class=\"-Zro6 -ZADH IjV6v AnCKd _57WYp\"><span class=\"d0767\">To help team members understand the meaning of nodes, create a codebook that lists the nodes and their descriptions\u2014refer to Export a codebook for more information.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"_04hd2 IjV6v\" dir=\"auto\">\n<div>\n<p id=\"viewer-s6fb\" class=\"-Zro6 -ZADH IjV6v AnCKd _57WYp\"><span class=\"d0767\">As the project progresses, see which nodes have been created or modified and by which team member\u2014do this in Node List View or by running a Node Summary report.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"_04hd2 IjV6v\" dir=\"auto\">\n<div>\n<p id=\"viewer-f3d6f\" class=\"-Zro6 -ZADH IjV6v AnCKd _57WYp\"><span class=\"d0767\">While a common node structure is important for efficiency and reliability\u2014 it should remain flexible so that new insights and exciting ideas are not lost.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p id=\"viewer-bhrbg\" class=\"-Zro6 -ZADH IjV6v AnCKd _57WYp\"><span class=\"d0767\"><a class=\"TWoY9 itht3\" href=\"http:\/\/help-nv11.qsrinternational.com\/desktop\/concepts\/Strategies_for_teamwork.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Top of Page<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-50dc3\" class=\"-Zro6 -ZADH IjV6v _57WYp\"><span class=\"d0767\">4. <strong>Coding together<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"viewer-fd5r5\" class=\"-Zro6 -ZADH IjV6v AnCKd _57WYp\"><span class=\"d0767\">If multiple researchers are coding the same data, you may be interested in the consistency of their coding.
