{"id":1301,"date":"2015-11-12T13:45:21","date_gmt":"2015-11-12T12:45:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ounews.co\/?p=1301"},"modified":"2015-11-12T13:45:21","modified_gmt":"2015-11-12T12:45:21","slug":"microbiology-society-accolade-for-ou-student","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/science-mct\/microbiology-society-accolade-for-ou-student\/","title":{"rendered":"Microbiology Society accolade for OU student"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An OU student has scooped a top prize for his achievements in microbiology.<\/p>\n<p>Michael Howard, 62, from Worcestershire, has been awarded the Undergraduate Microbiology Prize by the Microbiology Society.<\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;s\u00a0been studying for an Open Degree with The Open University, focusing on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/biology\">biology<\/a>, since March 2012, and was commended for the excellent progress he&#8217;s been making towards completing his qualification.<\/p>\n<p>He was presented with his award at the OU degree ceremony in \u00a0Birmingham by Vice-Chancellor, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/about\/main\/vice-chancellor\/career\">Peter Horrocks<\/a>, and Dean of the Faculty of Science, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/people\/hr4\">Professor Hazel Rymer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Michael said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I\u2019m really enjoying studying biology and pushing the boundaries on what I can achieve.
