{"id":14931,"date":"2020-03-11T10:37:48","date_gmt":"2020-03-11T10:37:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ounews.co\/?p=14931"},"modified":"2020-03-11T10:37:48","modified_gmt":"2020-03-11T10:37:48","slug":"turning-20-final-episode-of-child-of-our-time-airs-tonight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/around-ou\/tv-radio\/turning-20-final-episode-of-child-of-our-time-airs-tonight\/","title":{"rendered":"Turning 20 \u2013 final episode of &#8216;Child of Our Time&#8217; airs tonight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.open.edu\/openlearn\/tv-radio-events\/tv\/child-our-time-turning-20\"><em>Child of Our Time<\/em><\/a>, the ground-breaking series that began 20 years ago filming a group of babies from the moment they were born, returns to our screens on <strong>Wednesday 11 March at 9pm on BBC Two.\u00a0<\/strong>Co-produced by the BBC and The Open University&#8217;s Broadcast and Partnerships team, the one-off episode draws on hours of archive footage to shape a picture of childhood as the first generation of the 21st century.<\/p>\n<p>Eve, Jamie and Rhianna, three of the original children are the focus of the &#8216;Turning 20&#8217; episode, which marks an end to the social experiment that has followed the childhood and adolescence of 25 children over two decades. Alongside the fun of being children, all have faced challenges that have played a part in making them the adults they are today \u2013 mental health, sexual identity, bereavement and family tension are explored, against the backdrop of a time of extraordinary social change.<\/p>\n<p>OU Academic Consultants, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/people\/jmo2\">Professor John Oates<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/people\/sc7689\">Shelia Curran<\/a> have been involved in advising and shaping production, with John having been involved in the series since the second episode.
