On 16 July, families, schools and wider communities across the UK will be invited to take part in a host of activities to encourage and celebrate reading, build literacy skills and support wellbeing.<\/div>\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-16014 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/NRTD-logo-300x295.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"158\" height=\"156\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/NRTD-logo-300x295.png 300w, https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/NRTD-logo-768x756.png 768w, https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/NRTD-logo.png 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 158px) 100vw, 158px\" \/>With a full schedule of events from author readings, virtual panels and scavenger hunts, there will be fun for all ages. Paralympic medallist and presenter Ade Adepitan, mathematician Bobby Seagull, Waterstones Children\u2019s Laureate Cressida Cowell, poet Joseph Coehlo, and authors Jacqueline Wilson, Konnie Huq and Tom Palmer will be joining the action as ambassadors for the day.<\/div>\n<div><strong>Academic lead on the OU&#8217;s Reading for Pleasure programme, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/people\/tmc242\">Professor Teresa Cremin<\/a> commented:<\/strong><\/div>\n<blockquote>\n<div><em>\u201cI&#8217;m delighted to be an ambassador for the Reading Together Day. The Open University&#8217;s research reveals that reading builds bridges \u2013 across families, classrooms and communities. Reading for pleasure is the thread that connects. Reading changes lives and has many benefits which I&#8217;m looking forward to discussing on a panel as part of the day&#8217;s activities.\u201d<\/em><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div>The OU&#8217;s Reading for Pleasure team have created a <a href=\"https:\/\/researchrichpedagogies.org\/research\/supporting-rah\/reading-together-treasure-hunt\">treasure hunt<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/researchrichpedagogies.org\/research\/supporting-rah\/summer-reading-adventure\">summer reading adventure map<\/a> and a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/OpenUni_RfP\/status\/1282399026814623747?s=20\">circle of reading<\/a> video. Teresa will also be joining an expert panel led by <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Parentkind\">Parentkind<\/a> about children\u2019s reading and ways to motivate your little ones.
