{"id":16128,"date":"2020-08-04T09:52:06","date_gmt":"2020-08-04T08:52:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ounews.co\/?p=16128"},"modified":"2020-08-04T09:52:06","modified_gmt":"2020-08-04T08:52:06","slug":"ou-takes-home-gold-at-the-2020-bafta-tv-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/around-ou\/tv-radio\/ou-takes-home-gold-at-the-2020-bafta-tv-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"OU takes home gold at the 2020 BAFTA TV Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Blue Planet Live, a co-production between The Open University (OU) and the BBC, took home gold at the first virtual British Academy Television Awards (BAFTA).<\/p>\n<p>Up against stiff competition, including Glastonbury 2019 and last year\u2019s televised election results, the marine life series triumphed and received the award for Best Live Event.<\/p>\n<p>Blue Planet Live, a four-part series for BBC One, showcased marine life from all corners of the globe while exploring the health of the planet\u2019s oceans. OU nominated academics <a href=\"http:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/people\/cpb247\">Dr Carl Boardman<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/people\/tlg39\">Dr Toni Gladding<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/people\/mld5\">Dr Miranda Dyson<\/a> provided scientific expertise across the series.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the award, Dr Carl Boardman, Lecturer in Energy and Environmental Sciences at The Open University, said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe Blue Planet series has captured the hearts and minds of the Great British public and beyond. Blue Planet Live was no exception, providing real-time live broadcasts from some of the most beautiful locations in the world over the space of one incredible week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe series beamed spectacular visuals of the Bahamas and Great Barrier Reef into our living rooms, but also highlighted the current health and vitality of the world\u2019s oceans.
