{"id":18081,"date":"2021-03-26T13:46:11","date_gmt":"2021-03-26T13:46:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ounews.co\/?p=18081"},"modified":"2021-03-26T13:46:11","modified_gmt":"2021-03-26T13:46:11","slug":"ou-success-at-the-2020-learning-on-screen-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/around-ou\/tv-radio\/ou-success-at-the-2020-learning-on-screen-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"OU success at the 2020 Learning on Screen Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Open University has won five awards at this week&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/learningonscreen.ac.uk\/awards\/\">Learning on Screen Awards<\/a>, which for the past 15 years has showcased the best\u00a0educational film and television.<\/p>\n<p>Three of the OU&#8217;s BBC co-productions, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.open.edu\/openlearn\/tv-radio-events\/tv\/david-harewood-psychosis-and-me\"><em>David Harewood: Psychosis &amp; Me<\/em><\/a>; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/ideas\/playlists\/made-in-partnership-with-the-open-university\"><em>BBC Ideas: OU Playlist<\/em><\/a>; and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.open.edu\/openlearn\/tv-radio-events\/tv\/8-days-the-moon-and-back\"><em>8 Days: To the Moon and Back<\/em><\/a>\u00a0celebrated wins, with the latter also being presented with the overall, prestigious <strong>Premier Award<\/strong>. That\u2019s the total duration of the most important and celebrated space mission ever flown \u2013 Apollo 11, when humans first set foot on the Moon. It was a journey that changed the way we think about our place in the universe. The feature-length film, <em>8 Days: To the Moon and Back<\/em> was created to mark the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission. Using previously classified cockpit audio, it gave a unique insight into the astronaut\u2019s fears and excitement.<\/p>\n<p>The film can be <a href=\"http:\/\/videofinder.open.ac.uk\/programme\/233692\">viewed here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Academic Consultant and Professor of Planetary Science and Exploration, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=mahesh+anand+open+university&amp;rlz=1C1GCEU_en-gbGB857GB857&amp;oq=mahesh+&amp;aqs=chrome.0.69i59l2j69i57j46i67i433j0i67j46i131i433j0j69i61.1657j0j7&amp;sourceid=chrome&amp;ie=UTF-8\">Mahesh Anand<\/a>, commented:<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>&#8220;The significance of the Apollo 11 mission cannot be overstated and it is one of the biggest achievements of humanity. At The Open University, we have a rich tradition of carrying out world leading space research and it is our partnership with the BBC that allows us to further extend our reach to engage and educate learners across the world through the co-production of programmes such as 8 days. As he puts it, he \u2018lost his mind\u2019. On World Mental Health Awareness Day 2017, David took to Twitter and spoke publicly about his experiences for the first time. He was overwhelmed by the response. Psychosis and Me tells the full story \u2013 to piece together what happened to him and help others understand what it\u2019s like to experience psychosis.<\/p>\n<p>The programme can be <a href=\"http:\/\/videofinder.open.ac.uk\/programme\/233297\">viewed here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Academic Consultant and Associate Head of School, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/people\/saom3\">Dr Sarah Vicary<\/a>, commented:<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cTo have had the opportunity to be involved in this documentary as the Academic Consultant for The Open University has been a privilege. Clearly it is a personal experience to David and for him to have shared it in this way is hugely important in terms of raising awareness of what is a very serious matter.
