{"id":18758,"date":"2021-07-15T18:08:34","date_gmt":"2021-07-15T17:08:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ounews.co\/?p=18758"},"modified":"2021-07-15T18:08:34","modified_gmt":"2021-07-15T17:08:34","slug":"ou-ranked-third-in-national-student-survey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/around-ou\/university-news\/ou-ranked-third-in-national-student-survey\/","title":{"rendered":"OU ranked third in National Student Survey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The results of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.officeforstudents.org.uk\/advice-and-guidance\/student-information-and-data\/national-student-survey-nss\/\">National Student Survey (NSS) 2021<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestudentsurvey.com\/about-the-nss\/\">commissioned by the Office for Students (OfS)<\/a> have been published, with The Open University (OU) ranking <strong>third<\/strong> amongst 174 participating degree-awarding universities. This is a significant improvement from 17<sup>th<\/sup> in 2019, when the university last met the threshold for publication of its results.<\/p>\n<p>The OU maintained its overall satisfaction rating, with an increase from 87% (2019) to 88.24%, which places the OU in the top quartile for overall satisfaction (88%) and 13 percentage points above the sector average (75%).<\/p>\n<p>As the only institution in the survey to operate across all four UK nations, the OU also ranked highly in Wales, Northern Ireland, England and Scotland.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1<sup>st<\/sup> in Wales (amongst 9 participating universities)<\/li>\n<li>1<sup>st<\/sup> in Northern Ireland (amongst 4 participating universities)<\/li>\n<li><sup>2nd<\/sup> in England (amongst 143 participating universities)<\/li>\n<li>2<sup>nd<\/sup> in Scotland (amongst 18 participating universities)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>With continued strong results in the nations for overall satisfaction:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Scotland &#8211; 92%<\/li>\n<li>Northern Ireland &#8211; 91%<\/li>\n<li>Wales &#8211; 89%<\/li>\n<li>England &#8211; 88%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The OU also performed strongly in individual questions, such as <em>\u2018the course is well organised and is running smoothly\u2019<\/em> rated at 84.3% agreement \u2013 20.5 percentage points ahead of the sector for 2021, and Assessment and Feedback at 84.9% agreement.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/about\/main\/governance-ou\/executive-team\/pro-vice-chancellor-students\">Dr Liz Marr<\/a>, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Students)<\/strong>, commented:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cI am proud of the way we have continued to work hard across the University to make a positive difference for our students. We will keep working closely with our students to act on what they have told us; and we will build on the good work so far to help further improve the overall experience for our current and future learners. A huge thank you to OU staff who helped make this happen and for a continued commitment to helping our diverse group of students reach their study goals.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oustudents.com\/sarah-jones-2020-2022\">Sarah Jones<\/a>, President of the OU Students Association<\/strong>, added:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cReflecting on the last year and the challenges faced by our fellow students and the OU, I am delighted that we have been able to maintain our level of student satisfaction.
