{"id":18825,"date":"2021-07-23T11:19:45","date_gmt":"2021-07-23T10:19:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ounews.co\/?p=18825"},"modified":"2021-07-23T11:19:45","modified_gmt":"2021-07-23T10:19:45","slug":"worlds-finest-minds-come-together-for-new-educational-website","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/science-mct\/computing-communications\/worlds-finest-minds-come-together-for-new-educational-website\/","title":{"rendered":"World\u2019s finest minds come together for new educational website"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An academic from The OU\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/iet.open.ac.uk\/about\">Institute of Educational Technology<\/a> is among more than 150 of the world\u2019s best minds chosen to record a series of conversations about their subjects for a new educational website called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joinexpeditions.com\/experts\/465\">EXPeditions<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Mike Sharples, Emeritus Professor of Educational Technology, is part of an international cast of doctors, professors, lecturers, lawyers and writers who have shared their knowledge for posterity.<\/p>\n<p>Subjects range from psychoanalysis to land conservation, climate change, threats to media freedom and what Aristotle can teach us about positive emotions, among many others.<\/p>\n<h2>Making education accessible<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-18827 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Mike-Sharples-portrait-small-199x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Mike-Sharples-portrait-small-199x300.jpg 199w, https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Mike-Sharples-portrait-small-680x1024.jpg 680w, https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Mike-Sharples-portrait-small-768x1156.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/Mike-Sharples-portrait-small.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 199px) 100vw, 199px\" \/>In Professor Sharples\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.joinexpeditions.com\/experts\/465\">trio of seven-minute videos<\/a>, he talks about making education accessible; how technological advances can improve education and new ways to learn and teach.<\/p>\n<p>All the interviews were conducted during various lockdowns in 2020 by Pierre-Antoine Ullmo, the publisher and founder of the website and app that runs alongside it.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>Professor Sharples said: \u201cSharing our expertise can only benefit others who want to learn about our subjects. Educational technology is a fairly small world, but it has a big impact on the way people learn through The OU, even more so in the current covid climate.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>His research involves the human-centred design of new technologies and environments, and adapting and developing that technology to deliver the best results in terms of education.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cIt\u2019s an honour to have been invited to share some of this knowledge through EXPeditions in the company of others from universities around the globe.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Leading thinkers, researchers and scientists<\/h2>\n<p>EXPeditions contains the thoughts of leading thinkers, researchers and scientists from the top universities in the UK, USA, Australia, Europe and India who shared their passion and knowledge in bite-sized videos.<\/p>\n<p>Pierre-Antoine said: \u201cThere is no one better than academics, scientists, and leading professionals to share their passion for their subjects because they are dedicated body and soul to the issues within them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe website is aimed at a general audience including students who want to learn more; have a huge appetite for knowledge and are interested in the issues affecting the world \u2013 people who are willing to be part of the debate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The website gives access to all the conversations at joinexpeditions.com<\/p>\n<p>The EXPeditions app (joinexpeditions) is available for download on iPhones only at present and there are both free, and paid-for options available.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An academic from The OU\u2019s Institute of Educational Technology is among more than 150 of the world\u2019s best minds chosen to record a series of conversations about their subjects for a new educational website called EXPeditions.
