{"id":19204,"date":"2021-09-21T17:05:53","date_gmt":"2021-09-21T16:05:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ounews.co\/?p=19204"},"modified":"2021-09-21T17:05:53","modified_gmt":"2021-09-21T16:05:53","slug":"new-bbc-ou-co-pro-nowhere-to-run-available-to-watch-on-iplayer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/education-languages-health\/sport\/new-bbc-ou-co-pro-nowhere-to-run-available-to-watch-on-iplayer\/","title":{"rendered":"New BBC\/ OU co-pro &#8216;Nowhere to Run&#8217; available to watch on iPlayer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new programme co-produced by the BBC and The Open University (OU)\u00a0explores broadcaster, Charlie Webster\u2019s journey to uncover the truth about her past, when she and her friends from a Sheffield running group were abused by their coach.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/programmes\/p09v8k03\"><em>Nowhere to Run: Abused by Our Coach<\/em><\/a>, is an hour-long special programme available now for streaming on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/programmes\/p09v8k03\">BBC THREE <\/a>and poses a vital question \u2013 how did this go unnoticed?<\/p>\n<p>The programme follows Charlie, now 38, a broadcaster and journalist who joined an all-girls running group when she was 12.<\/p>\n<p>Running became her passion and escape, and the girls in her running group were her best friends. Outwardly, it seemed like a dream. In reality, Charlie and her teammates were being abused by their coach, yet Charlie never spoke to her friends about what she was going through.<\/p>\n<p>During the programme, Charlie reaches out to her old running group in the hopes of piecing together what they all went through and how it was allowed to happen.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/people\/sjrr3\">Simon Rea<\/a>, WELS Media Fellow, commented on how the abuse Charlie faced had affected her life and passion for running, and her devotion to uncovering the truth:<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cThis is a powerful story of how one girl\u2019s love of running and desire to be the very best was soured by the actions of an abusive coach that she had fully trusted.
