A programme of online events and activities is being staged for staff and students at The Open University to celebrate national Black History Month.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s theme is \u201cProud to be\u2026\u201d and subjects range from Black Tudor Britain to identity, belonging, decolonisation and religion.<\/p>\n
In this annual event, the OU is highlighting the stories of people with African or Caribbean heritage, recognising their contributions and achievements.<\/p>\n
Key events in the first week are speeches by inspiring law graduates, Anthony Brown and Leonie Shaw-Brown, who are sharing a platform on their experiences being involved with the Windrush Generation.<\/p>\n
Anthony wanted to study law in his twenties but when he went to apply, he found himself almost deported. See his full story here<\/a>. Eventually, he achieved a law degree through the OU and now supports fellow Windrush survivors.<\/p>\n The month also features talks involving Rotimi Adebari, the first Black mayor in Ireland, who shares an online stage with Dr Fidele Mutwarasibo<\/a>, lecturer in Work-based learning, at the OU Business School, who reveals the leadership practices that enabled this.<\/p>\n People are being urged to contribute and become involved in activities that celebrate Black culture throughout the year.<\/p>\nFor members of staff and students…<\/h2>\n
