{"id":24712,"date":"2024-02-14T16:37:39","date_gmt":"2024-02-14T16:37:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ounews.co\/?p=24712"},"modified":"2024-02-14T16:37:39","modified_gmt":"2024-02-14T16:37:39","slug":"ou-win-at-broadcast-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/around-ou\/ou-win-at-broadcast-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"Two OU\/BBC co-productions win recognition at key film awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Open University\u2019s Broadcasts and Partnerships team is celebrating after two OU\/BBC co-productions won accolades at the Broadcast Awards in the heart of London\u2019s Mayfair recently.<\/p>\n<p>The event was staged at Park Lane\u2019s JW Marriott Grosvenor House where it was revealed that \u2018<em>Once Upon a Time in Northern Ireland\u2019<\/em> and <em>\u2018Inside Our Autistic Minds\u2019<\/em>, won at the prestigious <a href=\"https:\/\/broadcastawards.co.uk\/\">Broadcast Awards<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The first of which won \u2018Best Documentary Series\u2019 and was made with the support of OU Academic consultant Dr Philip O\u2019Sullivan, from the Faculty of Arts and Social Studies.<\/p>\n<p>Twenty-five years on from a peace agreement being reached, <em>Once Upon a Time in Northern Ireland<\/em> shares intimate, unheard testimonies from all sides of the conflict.<\/p>\n<p>The judges said: \u201cPersonal, powerful and raw. This series presented an outstanding unravelling of a known story from a new perspective, which meant audiences were bound to learn something new.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe interviews and archive balanced the ordinary everyday with wide-reaching political events and were expertly woven throughout the series.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Further information and behind-the-scenes interviews with the documentary makers can be found on the OU\u2019s Broadcast site <a href=\"https:\/\/connect.open.ac.uk\/history-and-the-arts\/once-upon-a-time-in-northern-ireland\">OU Connect<\/a> and the series can be viewed on <a href=\"https:\/\/videofinder.open.ac.uk\/programme\/245461\">VideoFinder<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>There was further celebration when the team won the \u2018Best Specialist Factual Programme\u2019 for <em>Inside Our Autistic Minds<\/em> presented by Chris Packham.<\/p>\n<p>The academic consultants were Professor Kieron Sheehy and Fiona Henry, from the Faculty of Wellbeing, Education and Language Studies.<\/p>\n<p>In the programme Chris immersed himself in the everyday experiences of autistic people to learn about and illustrate the unique way in which they see the world, helping them connect with their friends and family in a new, more authentic way.<\/p>\n<p>The judges described this film as, \u201ca testament to inspired storytelling\u201d and \u201ca compelling example of education seamlessly intertwining with emotional engagement\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>One judge said: \u201cChris\u2019s deeply personal connection adds a moving and enlightening dimension.
