{"id":24913,"date":"2024-03-27T10:38:44","date_gmt":"2024-03-27T10:38:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ounews.co\/?p=24913"},"modified":"2024-03-27T10:38:44","modified_gmt":"2024-03-27T10:38:44","slug":"open-university-nominated-for-tv-bafta","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/around-ou\/tv-radio\/open-university-nominated-for-tv-bafta\/","title":{"rendered":"Open University and BBC co-production nominated for a TV BAFTA award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Open University\/BBC award-winning documentary \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/ounews.co\/around-ou\/tv-radio\/once-upon-a-time-in-northern-ireland-documentary-about-the-troubles\/\">Once Upon a Time in Northern Ireland<\/a>\u201d has been nominated for another accolade, this time a prestigious TV BAFTA.<\/p>\n<p>Twenty-five years on from a peace agreement being reached, <em>Once Upon a Time in Northern Ireland<\/em> shares intimate, unheard testimonies from all sides of the conflict.<\/p>\n<p>It combined archive footage with the personal accounts of people still dealing with the fallout of The Troubles. The series was first broadcast on BBC Two in May 2023 and is available to watch on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/iplayer\/episodes\/p0ff7cg0\/once-upon-a-time-in-northern-ireland\">iPlayer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Now this five-part series has been nominated in the TV BAFTA\u2019s \u201cSpecialist Factual\u201d category, alongside \u201cDublin Narcos\u201d and \u201cLockerbie\u201d, both Sky Documentaries and Channel 4\u2019s \u201cEvacuation\u201d. \u00a0It has already won Best Documentary series in the recent Broadcast Awards.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Caroline Ogilvie, Director, Broadcasts and Partnerships at the OU said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cIt is thrilling to have received a nomination for such a prestigious awards ceremony. <\/em><em>We look forward to hearing the result but as far as we are concerned, a nomination is a huge achievement and my thanks go to all those that helped make this series such a success.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Dr Philip O\u2019Sullivan, Senior Lecturer in the School of Social Sciences and Global Studies, based at the OU in Belfast, and the OU\u2019s academic consultant for the series, has worked closely with people involved in the conflict for more than 15 years now.<\/p>\n<p>He said of the nomination:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cWhat a huge achievement. I look forward to hearing the result. In terms of the documentary\u2026 it made for uncomfortable viewing, but sometimes uncomfortable is a necessary thing.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe statements it features from ordinary people who lived through extraordinary times are some of the aspects of this documentary that makes it so compelling and powerful.
