{"id":25759,"date":"2024-09-13T14:22:05","date_gmt":"2024-09-13T13:22:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ounews.co\/?p=25759"},"modified":"2024-09-13T14:22:05","modified_gmt":"2024-09-13T13:22:05","slug":"ou-interactive-educational-show-about-composer-mozart-supports-a-new-three-part-bbc-series","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/around-ou\/tv-radio\/ou-interactive-educational-show-about-composer-mozart-supports-a-new-three-part-bbc-series\/","title":{"rendered":"OU interactive educational show about composer Mozart supports a new three-part BBC series"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you\u2019ve ever wondered why composer Mozart became so well known a team at The Open University has created an interactive educational \u2018show\u2019 that demonstrates his brilliance.<\/p>\n<p>It coincides with the airing of a new three-part Open University\/BBC co-production called <strong>Mozart: Rise of a Genius<\/strong> beginning on Monday, 16 September, at 9pm on BBC Two and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/programmes\/m0021zdt\">BBC iPlayer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The film explores the life of Mozart \u2013 just one of many brilliant composers who might be described as a genius \u2013 who rose to fame because his family recognised his prodigious talents as a child.<\/p>\n<p>They took him and his talented sister Maria Anna, nicknamed Nannerl, on tour to perform in the cultural centres of 18<sup>th<\/sup> century Europe. This series explores how his relationships and experiences may have influenced his work.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/people\/njb326\">Dr Naomi Barker<\/a> is a musicologist who studies late 16<sup>th<\/sup> and 17<sup>th<\/sup> century music, and a performer specialising in 18<sup>th<\/sup> century music. She worked with the OU Connect producers alongside <a href=\"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/people\/hg2265\">Dr Helen Coffey<\/a>,\u00a0 a musicologist\u00a0 and specialist in music from German and Austrian cities from the 16<sup>th<\/sup> to 18<sup>th<\/sup> centuries. Both are senior lecturers in the OU Music department.<\/p>\n<p>Together, they explored Mozart\u2019s brilliance in composing concertos and you can discover a \u2018must-listen\u2019 playlist and learn more about his musical world at <a href=\"https:\/\/connect.open.ac.uk\/history-and-the-arts\/mozart\/\">OU Connect<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Naomi said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cThe OU team that created the interactive content to go onto the webpage have been brilliant.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe have an animated graphic that explains some technical details about the structure of Mozart\u2019s piano concertos using a recording by our learning partner, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment (OAE).<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cAnd there are links through to videos from the OAE that provide accurate information and great performances.\u201d<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong><u>Supporting Online Content<\/u><\/strong><strong>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Visit our Broadcast and Partnerships site, <a href=\"https:\/\/connect.open.ac.uk\/history-and-the-arts\/mozart\/\"><strong>OU Connect<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0where you can find <a href=\"https:\/\/connect.open.ac.uk\/history-and-the-arts\/mozart\/#interactive\">an animation<\/a> exploring what a concerto is and why Mozart excelled at composing them.
