{"id":25845,"date":"2024-10-07T14:04:40","date_gmt":"2024-10-07T13:04:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ounews.co\/?p=25845"},"modified":"2024-11-07T09:33:09","modified_gmt":"2024-11-07T09:33:09","slug":"the-open-university-supports-launch-of-university-of-dyslexic-thinking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/around-ou\/university-news\/the-open-university-supports-launch-of-university-of-dyslexic-thinking\/","title":{"rendered":"The Open University supports launch of University of Dyslexic Thinking"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">The Open University (OU) has collaborated with the charity \u2018Made By Dyslexia\u2019 to support the launch of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.open.edu\/openlearncreate\/course\/index.php?categoryid=1656\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">DyslexicU<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">, a free online university that aims to promote \u2018a new school of thought\u2019 by teaching the principles of dyslexic thinking.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">DyslexicU is hosted on the OU&#8217;s <em>Open Learn Create<\/em> platform and offers a range of free courses designed to help individuals understand how dyslexic thinking works. Sir Richard Branson, who is himself dyslexic, is one of the key contributors and shares insights into how dyslexic thinking fuels entrepreneurial success.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">The launch of DyslexicU, which took place in New York on September 24<sup>th<\/sup> to coincide with the United Nations General Assembly, was attended by Sir Richard, who has since used his global platform to promote the courses via <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/business\/richard-branson-university-of-dyslexic-thinking-rcna173066\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">NBC News<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\"> and his Virgin networks. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">With World Dyslexia Day approaching on October 8th, DyslexicU is continuing to gain global attention, furthering its mission to promote dyslexic thinking, inclusivity, and access to education\u2014values that resonate with The Open University.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/about.open.ac.uk\/governance-ou\/executive-team\/pro-vice-chancellor-res\">Professor Kevin Shakesheff<\/a>, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation at the OU, added:<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">\u2018&#8221;This initiative is a great example of how The OU is supporting its vision of reaching \u2018more students with life-changing learning that meets their needs and enriches society\u2019. As a fully inclusive university this remains at the heart of what we do and I am delighted to see that dyslexic thinkers such as Kate Griggs of Made By Dyslexia and Sir Richard Branson have embraced our Open Create platform to create this DyslexicU resource.&#8221;<\/span><\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">Liz Ponting<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">, Senior Corporate Development Manager at the OU who supported the project, added:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\"><em>&#8220;The OU\u2019s mission is to be open to people, places, methods, and ideas, making higher education accessible to all. Made By Dyslexia\u2019s mission is to teach the world the brilliance of dyslexic thinking and empower it in every home, every school, and every workplace.
