{"id":27041,"date":"2025-04-09T10:31:17","date_gmt":"2025-04-09T09:31:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/?p=27041"},"modified":"2025-04-09T10:43:36","modified_gmt":"2025-04-09T09:43:36","slug":"new-series-of-saving-lives-in-cardiff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/education-languages-health\/new-series-of-saving-lives-in-cardiff\/","title":{"rendered":"New series of Saving Lives in Cardiff"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new six-part series of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/category\/around-ou\/tv-radio\/\">OU<\/a>\/<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\">BBC<\/a> co-production, Saving Lives in Cardiff, airs today, 9 April, at 9pm on both <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/schedules\/p00fzl6z\">BBC One Wales<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/bbctwo\">BBC Two.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The new series follows the daily decisions made by clinicians at the <a href=\"https:\/\/cavuhb.nhs.wales\/\">Cardiff and Vale University Hospitals<\/a>, as they seek to transform the lives of their patients in South Wales, against a backdrop of mounting waiting lists.<\/p>\n<p>Featuring observational filming and in-depth interviews, the programmes reveal the full scale of clinicians\u2019 caseloads, and the heart-rending, hard-headed decisions surgeons must make before tackling the day job of changing people\u2019s lives.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/people\/usl3\">Dr Una St-Ledger, Staff Tutor, Nursing<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/people\/kam432\">Kirsten Bashir, Lecturer in Nursing<\/a> at The Open University, were the academic consultants for the series.<\/p>\n<p>They said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>\u201cAs Open University nursing academics, we were delighted to work on this latest series of \u2018Saving Lives in Cardiff\u2019.
