{"id":27361,"date":"2025-06-04T11:48:33","date_gmt":"2025-06-04T10:48:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/?p=27361"},"modified":"2025-06-04T11:48:33","modified_gmt":"2025-06-04T10:48:33","slug":"rethinking-our-national-and-international-issues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/around-ou\/tv-radio\/rethinking-our-national-and-international-issues\/","title":{"rendered":"Rethinking our national and international issues"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you\u2019ve ever wondered how a major emerging national or international issue might play out through alternative solutions by decisionmakers, then check out The Open University\/BBC radio series <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/programmes\/p08gt1ry\"><strong><em>Rethink<\/em><\/strong><\/a> on <strong>BBC Radio 4<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The OU\u2019s Professor of Politics and International Studies <a href=\"https:\/\/profiles.open.ac.uk\/simon-usherwood\">Simon Usherwood<\/a> was the consultant to programme makers for this third series that looks at a range of topics under discussion by different experts each week.<\/p>\n<p>They gather in a studio to give their opinion on subjects ranging from social housing to the civil service, productivity, our relationships with China and summer holidays.<\/p>\n<h2>Ideas to make the world a better place<\/h2>\n<p>It\u2019s a series that contains 5 episodes and invites the latest thinking and research, via a roundtable discussion, where new ideas are put forward that might make the world a better place.\u00a0Tune in each Thursday at 4pm or listen on BBC Sounds.<\/p>\n<p>Simon said: \u201cRethink offers an opportunity to reconsider the world around us in a new light.
