{"id":27682,"date":"2025-09-04T09:00:40","date_gmt":"2025-09-04T08:00:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/?p=27682"},"modified":"2025-09-03T16:52:51","modified_gmt":"2025-09-03T15:52:51","slug":"ou-bbc-radio-series-word-of-mouth-returns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/education-languages-health\/ou-bbc-radio-series-word-of-mouth-returns\/","title":{"rendered":"OU \/ BBC radio series Word of Mouth returns"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Today (Thurs 4 Sept) a new OU\/BBC radio series of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/programmes\/b006qtnz\"><b>Word of Mouth<\/b><\/a>\u00a0has returned to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sounds\/play\/live\/bbc_radio_fourfm\"><b>BBC Radio 4<\/b><\/a>, airing weekly at\u00a0<b>15:30<\/b> until Thursday 2 October and available to catch up on through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sounds\">BBC Sounds.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The series is presented by celebrated author\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.michaelrosen.co.uk\/\">Michael Rosen<\/a>\u00a0and explores the world of words and how we use them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Michael explores various areas of language throughout the series, from examining the effects of certain conditions on the way we communicate to considering legal terminology used within courtrooms.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Dr Philip Seargeant, Senior Lecturer in English Language and Applied Linguistics, alongside <a href=\"https:\/\/profiles.open.ac.uk\/zsuzsanna-barkanyi\">Dr Zsuzsanna Barkanyi<\/a>, Senior Lecturer in Spanish, were academic consultants for the series.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">They said:<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><i>&#8216;We&#8217;re delighted to be partnering with the BBC&#8217;s Word of Mouth again for a second series, and to be able to again feed expertise from LAL into the programmes.
