{"id":2973,"date":"2016-05-06T17:09:10","date_gmt":"2016-05-06T16:09:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ounews.co\/?p=2973"},"modified":"2016-05-06T17:09:10","modified_gmt":"2016-05-06T16:09:10","slug":"dementiaville-scoops-learning-screen-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/around-ou\/tv-radio\/dementiaville-scoops-learning-screen-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Dementiaville scoops Learning on Screen Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Open University and Channel 4 co-produced documentary series that explored a radical approach to dementia care has won the <a href=\"http:\/\/bufvc.ac.uk\/events\/learningonscreen\/learning-on-screen-2016-winners\">General Education Broadcast Award<\/a> at the Learning on Screen Awards.<\/p>\n<p>Now in its 12th year, the <a href=\"http:\/\/bufvc.ac.uk\/events\/learningonscreen\">Learning on Screen Awards<\/a>\u00a0is the UK\u2019s only celebration of media production in learning, teaching and research. Held by the <a href=\"http:\/\/bufvc.ac.uk\/\">British Universities Film &amp; Video Council (BUFVC),<\/a> the awards recognise the ground-breaking ways organisations use film and media to educate, with special categories highlighting the work of students at UK education institutions.<\/p>\n<p>The award was in recognition of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.channel4.com\/programmes\/dementiaville\/on-demand\/55147-002\">Dementiaville Episode 2: Families<\/a> that was originally broadcast on Channel 4 in June 2015. This episode featured families who were caring for their loved ones at home offering an insight into the family\u2019s determination, the impact on their everyday lives and the inner strength that is required.\u00a0 We see family members attending a work shop run by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dementiacarematters.com\/\">Dr David Sheard<\/a>, an expert in dementia care, who showed them ways to reconnect with their loved ones through shared memories and rediscovery of critical moments in their life, whilst building new memories.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_2975\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2975\" id=\"longdesc-return-2975\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2975\" tabindex=\"-1\" src=\"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/2016_winner_Dementiaville-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"General Education Broadcast Award, Learning on Screen Awards\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" longdesc=\"https:\/\/ounews.co?longdesc=2975&amp;referrer=2973\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/2016_winner_Dementiaville-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/2016_winner_Dementiaville-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/2016_winner_Dementiaville.jpg 720w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2975\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">General Education Broadcast Award for Dementiaville, Episode 2<\/p><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.open.edu\/openlearn\/profiles\/co442\">Dr Caroline Ogilvie<\/a>, Head of Broadcast and Partnerships, at The Open University, said: \u201cIt\u2019s wonderful that this series has received such important recognition and praise. Our academic team from HSC &#8211; Carol Komoramy and <a href=\"http:\/\/hsc-people.open.ac.uk\/s.l.murphy\">Sam Murphy <\/a>did a superlative job advising on these programmes and it was excellent to have the opportunity to work with OneTwoFour and Channel 4 on this unique series.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Chair of the Jury, Ian Wall, Director of Education at The Film Space, commented on the evening: &#8220;Every year we see outstanding submissions and we always wonder if the high standard can be repeated. This year certainly did not let us down, with submissions making it very difficult to settle on our eventual list of category winners.
