In <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/programmes\/b036f7w2\">a special interview with BBC Inside Science,<\/a>\u00a0co-produced by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.open.edu\/openlearn\/whats-on\/radio\/bbc-inside-science-2016\/2017-series?episode=18014\">The Open University<\/a>,\u00a0Senior Lecturer at The Open University, Dr Matthew Balme, introduces us to his collaborative research, which has been published in <a href=\"http:\/\/geology.gsapubs.org\/content\/early\/2016\/08\/23\/G38247.1.full.pdf+html\">Geology Journal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Balme, said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur team has been looking for potential landing sites for the ExoMars Rover \u2013 a European mission that will look for signs of ancient life on Mars. One of these sites is called <em>Aram Dorsum<\/em> \u2013 it\u2019s an ancient fossilised\u201d riverbed, nearly 80 km long and several km wide and is surrounded by what look like ancient flood plains.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince studying <em>Aram Dorsum<\/em>, our group has found many more of these \u201cfossilised rivers\u201d around this area, \u00a0which suggest that ancient Mars was warmer and wetter than it is today; this makes <em>Aram Dorsum<\/em> a great site to visit to look for evidence of past life on Mars.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The quest to discover whether life exists, or has existed, on the Planet Mars has been one of the driving forces of space science research for decades.
