{"id":4055,"date":"2016-09-09T16:13:42","date_gmt":"2016-09-09T15:13:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ounews.co\/?p=4055"},"modified":"2016-09-09T16:13:42","modified_gmt":"2016-09-09T15:13:42","slug":"scotland-battle-britain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/around-ou\/tv-radio\/scotland-battle-britain\/","title":{"rendered":"Scotland and the Battle for Britain"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden\">\n<div class=\"field-items\">\n<div class=\"field-item even\">\n<p class=\"int-intro-text int-intro-text int-intro-text int-intro-text\"><em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Andrew_Marr\">Former BBC political editor Andrew Marr<\/a>, born in Glasgow, presents S<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/programmes\/b07w4d63\">cotland and the Battle for Britain<\/a>, a two-part documentary exploring Scotland&#8217;s political transformation during the historic events of\u00a0recent years.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Produced in partnership with The Open University, the programmes look at the impact of the Scottish referendum on independence, the success of the SNP in last year&#8217;s UK General Election, and what the vote for Brexit means for Scotland.<\/p>\n<p>Senior Lecturer at The Open University and academic consultant for the programme, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/gerrymooney60\">Dr Gerry Mooney<\/a>, said:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are living through some of the most profound political, economic and social changes that Scotland has experienced in decades. Some of these have been a consequence of recent events, but others have been building over time.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><em>Scotland and the Battle for Britain <\/em>explores these issues and changes in the context of Scotland and the wider UK\u2019s historical development since 1945, offering an informed narrative of Scotland\u2019s modern political journey. But while there\u2019s wide agreement that this is a time of significant change and political complexity, there\u2019s little consensus on how this can be explained.<\/p>\n<p><em>Scotland and the Battle for Britain<\/em> offers a new perspective, and I hope that it will help to stimulate and inform debate and discussion around the vexed question of the current Scottish political landscape \u2013 and where it might go in the future.<\/p>\n<p>The first episode is broadcast on BBC Two on Sunday 11 November 2016, 8pm.
