{"id":4470,"date":"2016-11-11T17:21:40","date_gmt":"2016-11-11T16:21:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ounews.co\/?p=4470"},"modified":"2016-11-11T17:21:40","modified_gmt":"2016-11-11T16:21:40","slug":"india-uk-excellence-award-ou-research-partnership","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/science-mct\/engineering-innovation\/india-uk-excellence-award-ou-research-partnership\/","title":{"rendered":"India-UK Excellence Award for OU research partnership"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/people\/sk9268\">Dr Satheesh Krishnamurthy<\/a>, a Senior Lecturer in Energy, along with his academic partner,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nitdgp.ac.in\/phy\/a_k_chakraborty\/a_k_chakraborty.php\">Dr Amit Kumar Chakraborty<\/a>\u00a0from the National Institute of Technology (NITD) in Durgapur, India, has won the Mobility Award at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.britishcouncil.in\/programmes\/higher-education\/internationalising-higher-education\/india-uk-excellence-awards\">India-UK Excellence Awards<\/a>.\u00a0 Their project to develop low-cost solar cells has involved a researcher exchange programme which has fostered the skills of young academics working in this field.<\/p>\n<p>The awards recognised the best international collaborations between HE institutes of India and the UK, as part of the UK-India Year of Education, Research &amp; Innovation 2016, led by the British Council and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). \u00a0The awards ceremony was part of the high level delegation led by Prime Minister Theresa May and her team, which took in the UK-India Tech Summit.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4472 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Satheesh-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"Satheesh Krishnamurthy\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Satheesh-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Satheesh-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Satheesh-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Satheesh-768x768.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Satheesh.jpg 1061w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Dr Kristhnamurthy said: \u201cIt\u2019s wonderful to have the international reach and collaboration of this project celebrated in this way. Our research is designed in such a way to produce budding entrepreneurs, it is socially oriented research that will have direct import to society. \u00a0The most important ingredient in building a long lasting academic relationship is mutual scientific respect and clear strategic synergies.\u00a0 We\u2019ll continue to work together and we are thinking big.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>International collaboration and knowledge sharing<\/h2>\n<p>The two-year international project, called GALES (Graphene Assisted Low-Cost Energy-efficient Solar cell), has established international research track records in a diverse range of new advanced materials.<\/p>\n<p>Four students from NITD spent time at The Open University in the UK as part of the project, getting involved in poster presentations, attending the NanoEnergy conference and spending time with associate partner Liverpool University. Dr Chakraborty delivered a short course to OU research students as part of his visit, which also included a presentation to the wider faculty.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Krishnamurthy and three students from the OU spent time at NITD, with Dr Krishnamurthy delivering a lecture series through the Ministry of Human Resources Development India programme, Global Initiative Academic Network, and collaborating with other colleagues for further research.
