The awards recognise and celebrate documentaries from Britain and abroad that have made a significant contribution to the genre and that demonstrate quality, integrity, creativity, originality and overall excellence.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4543 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Simon-Binner-2-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"simon-binner-2\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Simon-Binner-2-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Simon-Binner-2-1024x573.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Simon-Binner-2-768x430.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Simon-Binner-2.jpg 1360w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.open.edu\/openlearn\/whats-on\/tv\/how-die-simons-choice\"><strong><em>How to Die: Simon\u2019s Choice<\/em><\/strong><\/a> won <strong>Best Documentary on a Contemporary Theme (Domestic)<\/strong>.\u00a0 The film was produced by Minnow Films in partnership with The Open University, was commissioned by Dr Caroline Ogilvie, the academic team was <a href=\"https:\/\/ounews.co\/education-languages-health\/health\/why-assisted-suicide-is-a-moral-maze\/\">Dr Samantha Murphy<\/a> and Prof. Derek Matravers, and Caroline Green was the Broadcast Project Manager.\u00a0 The<a href=\"https:\/\/ounews.co\/around-ou\/tv-radio\/documentary-simons-choice-assisted-suicide\/\"> film <\/a>tells the dramatic and poignant story of one man facing a heart wrenching decision of whether to end his life at a suicide clinic.\u00a0 Shot against the back-drop of recent parliamentary debate on the assisted dying bill, Simon\u2019s remarkable story explores the complex human questions at the heart of this deeply divisive issue.\u00a0 The documentary was supported by the Faculty of Arts and Social Science and had particular relevance to <u>BA (Hons) Health and Social Care<\/u> (Q18) and also <u>MA Philosophy (F30)<\/u><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4541 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Hunt-bear-pic-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"hunt-bear-pic\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Hunt-bear-pic-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Hunt-bear-pic-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Hunt-bear-pic.jpg 976w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.open.edu\/openlearn\/whats-on\/tv\/the-hunt\"><strong><em>The Hunt<\/em><\/strong>,<\/a> won <strong>Best Natural History Documentary<\/strong>.\u00a0 The series, narrated by Sir David Attenborough, was produced by Silverback Films in partnership with The Open University, was commissioned by Dr Caroline Ogilvie, the academic team was Dr Vicky Taylor and Dr Miranda Dyson, and Caroline Green was the Broadcast Project Manager.\u00a0 The series showed a unique perspective on how predators track their prey and gave audiences a revealing look at how both change their behaviours, refine their skills and ultimately adapt to cope with the challenges they face to survive. Supported by the Faculty of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, this was particularly relevant to OU students studying <em>S295: The Biology of Survival <\/em>module. \u00a0An augmented reality poster was also produced to support the series.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The OU is celebrating success at an international awards ceremony for two of its co-productions with the BBC.
