Everything we produce creates unique resources for our teaching and learning.<\/p>\n<h2>Exploring the planet, and the universe<\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_7294\" style=\"width: 266px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7294\" class=\"wp-image-7294 \" src=\"https:\/\/ounews.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/The-21st-Century-Race-for-Space_001-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Brian Cox BBC\" width=\"256\" height=\"170\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-7294\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Professor Brian Cox explored the space race<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Our stellar list of programmes this year covered both our planet and the universe. We looked at the complexity of our bodies in<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.open.edu\/openlearn\/humanbody\"> <strong>The Human Body: The Secrets Of Your Life Revealed<\/strong><\/a>, <\/em>the challenges for our healthcare system in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.open.edu\/openlearn\/hospital\"><strong><em>Hospital<\/em><\/strong><\/a><em>. <\/em>We followed\u00a0the complex cases handled by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.open.edu\/openlearn\/tv-radio-events\/tv\/the-detectives-murder-on-the-streets\"><em><strong>The Detectives<\/strong><\/em><\/a>, and were inspired by the positive stories from people living with a terminal illness in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.open.edu\/openlearn\/tv-radio-events\/tv\/time-live\"><strong><em>A Time to Live<\/em><\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The strength of the human spirit was further explored in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.open.edu\/openlearn\/tv-radio-events\/tv\/blitz-the-bombs-changed-britain\"><strong><em>Blitz: The Bombs That Changed Britain<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, and humankind\u2019s ingenuity in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.open.edu\/openlearn\/science-maths-technology\/engineering-technology\/britains-greatest-invention\"><strong><em>Britain\u2019s Greatest Inventions<\/em><\/strong><\/a>. We visited our millennials in the latest instalment of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.open.edu\/openlearn\/childofourtime16\"><strong><em>Child of our Time<\/em><\/strong><\/a> and marked the 50<sup>th<\/sup> Anniversary of the home of the OU in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.open.edu\/openlearn\/tv-radio-events\/tv\/milton-keynes-and-me\"><strong><em>Milton Keynes and Me<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, a film by Richard Mercer. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.open.edu\/openlearn\/tv-radio-events\/tv\/prejudice-and-pride\"><strong><em>Prejudice and Pride: The People\u2019s History of LGBTQ Britain<\/em><\/strong><\/a> marked another anniversary, with a change in law of the Sexual Offences Act 1967.<\/p>\n<h2>Beyond the screen and airwaves<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-7293 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/GTD_HEAD__BG_LOGOS_1000x65-300x195.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"195\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/GTD_HEAD__BG_LOGOS_1000x65-300x195.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/GTD_HEAD__BG_LOGOS_1000x65-768x499.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/GTD_HEAD__BG_LOGOS_1000x65.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>The OU\/BBC partnership continued to expand beyond TV and radio content. In October we launched <a href=\"http:\/\/www.open.edu\/openlearn\/tv-radio-events\/events\/go-the-distance\"><strong><em>Go the Distance<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, a new series about distance learning on the BBC\u2019s online channel, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/learningenglish\/\">World Service Learning English<\/a>.
