{"id":8461,"date":"2018-04-24T15:51:56","date_gmt":"2018-04-24T15:51:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ounews.co\/?p=8461"},"modified":"2018-04-24T15:51:56","modified_gmt":"2018-04-24T15:51:56","slug":"britains-obesity-epidemic-explored-in-two-new-bbc-programmes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/education-languages-health\/health\/britains-obesity-epidemic-explored-in-two-new-bbc-programmes\/","title":{"rendered":"Britain&#8217;s obesity epidemic explored in two new BBC programmes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to the\u00a0<a href=\"file:\/\/userdata\/documents8\/met328\/Downloads\/HSE2015-Sum-bklt.pdf\">Health Survey for England<\/a>\u00a0obesity levels in England have nearly doubled\u00a0in the last 25 years, and nearly two thirds of adults were overweight or obese in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Now, two new BBC series co-produced with the OU set out to explore our national obesity epidemic, and what it means to be obese in Britain today.<\/p>\n<h2>Britain\u2019s Fat Fight with Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall<\/h2>\n<p><strong>BBC One<\/strong>\u2019s new three-part series, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.open.edu\/openlearn\/tv-radio-events\/tv\/britains-fat-fight\"><strong>Britain\u2019s Fat Fight with Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall<\/strong><\/a><strong>,<\/strong> starts on <strong>Wednesday 25 April 2018,<\/strong> <strong>9pm<\/strong>\u00a0(<strong>10:45pm in Scotland<\/strong>). Hugh confronts one of the UK\u2019s biggest health crises, by examining and exposing how consumers are being\u00a0misled by packaging and portion sizes, and bombarded by junk food advertising.<\/p>\n<p>Through a series of stunts he takes on the\u00a0food industry giants, pushing them to be more transparent about what&#8217;s in our food,\u00a0and\u00a0he takes his findings all the way to Number 10. As well as battling big businesses, Hugh tries to see if he can change the eating habits of a whole city by\u00a0challenging the people of Newcastle to lose 100,000 lbs in weight in a year.<\/p>\n<h2>The Truth About Obesity<\/h2>\n<p>In a one-off episode on<strong> BBC One <\/strong>on <strong>Thursday 26 April at 8pm,<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.open.edu\/openlearn\/tv-radio-events\/tv\/the-truth-about-obesity#episode-details\"><strong>The Truth About Obesity<\/strong><\/a> looks at the latest scientific research on obesity.
