{"id":995,"date":"2015-10-01T10:49:47","date_gmt":"2015-10-01T09:49:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ounews.co\/?p=995"},"modified":"2015-10-01T10:49:47","modified_gmt":"2015-10-01T09:49:47","slug":"the-business-of-film-making","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/news\/business-law\/business\/the-business-of-film-making\/","title":{"rendered":"Free online course looks at the business of film-making"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/business-school\/\">The Open University Business School<\/a>\u00a0and Pinewood Studios have launched a free online course considering the business side of film-making.<\/p>\n<p>Available on the online social learning platform\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.futurelearn.com\/\">FutureLearn<\/a> as a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.futurelearn.com\/courses\/business-of-film\">\u2018The Business of Film\u2019 course<\/a> coincides with the opening of the 59<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0British Film Institute (BFI) London Film Festival.<\/p>\n<p>It explores the key business decisions in film production and the complexities of development, distribution and finance. Students will consider topics\u00a0such as why films fail, and what the relationship is between box office returns, marketing and the overall success of a film.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Rebecca Taylor, Dean of the OU Business School, said: &#8220;Our partnership with Pinewood Studios is an exciting opportunity to combine the expertise of two international organisations that are world-leading in their respective fields.\u00a0We hope that learners, whatever their background and experience, will be inspired to progress, continuing to develop the UK film industry into the future.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Business of Film\u00a0MOOC runs for six weeks from 5th October with three hours of study each week.
