The Hayward Gallery exhibition on Ana Mendieta is billed as the first retrospective of this major artist’s work to be presented in the UK. “Focusing on her later pieces, the exhibition reveals the full breadth of her work and her unique practice in a wide variety of media, from photography to film, sculpture to drawing” Hayward Gallery.
Gill Perry wrote about Ana Mendieta in Book 1 of AA318 Art of the Twentieth Century, an Open University course which addresses the fundamental changes that have taken place in the concepts and practices of art during the twentieth century. Interest in modern art in Britain has never been higher: an interest stimulated both by the international success of a new generation of British artists during the 1990s, and by the opening of Tate Modern in 2000.
