{"id":1519,"date":"2019-04-26T10:58:13","date_gmt":"2019-04-26T10:58:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/opentel\/?p=1519"},"modified":"2019-05-22T15:24:12","modified_gmt":"2019-05-22T15:24:12","slug":"openaied-sig-may-meeting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/opentel\/openaied-sig-may-meeting\/","title":{"rendered":"openAIED SIG May meeting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/opentel\">openTEL<\/a><\/strong> is pleased to announce that the June <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/openaied.wordpress.com\/\">openAIED<\/a><\/strong><strong> Special Interest Group<\/strong> will be a presentation on gamification in nurse education in Thailand by Dr On-Anong Thammajinda and Assistant Professor Kanyapat Chaeye of Payap University, Thailand.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Abstract<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The presentation will cover game development, an online medical terms game for nursing students and Dr Thammajinda\u2019s work related to GBL in nursing\/healthcare. In nursing education, it is essential to encourage students to learn medical terms and be able to use them confidently. A medical terms game booklet was used as learning material to enhance nursing students\u2019 knowledge in the previous study. Results revealed that the booklet enhanced student knowledge but was not exciting, challenging or rewarding as the booklet does not contain interactive media. Dr Thammajinda and Prof. Chaeye\u2019s recent research aims to investigate how to develop an online medical terms game and the effectiveness of using the game to support and enhance the learning environment for nursing students at McCormick Faculty of Nursing, Payap University, Thailand.<\/p>\n<p><strong>D<\/strong><strong>r On-Anong Thammajinda<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Pediatric nursing lecturer and clinical instructor at McCormick Faculty of Nursing, Payap University in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Dr. Thammajinda\u2019s areas of expertise are children\u2019s health, health assessment and health promotion. She facilitates teaching to several groups of people in the community (i.e. preschool teachers, school based-students, health personals). Her recent research is about enhancing knowledge and practice of preschool teachers in common communicable disease prevention and control using experiential learning theory. Dr. Thammajinda has interests in the research of teen pregnancy, child growth and development and parental education.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Assistant Professor Kanyapat Chaeye <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lecturer in Maternal and Child Nursing at McCormick Faculty of Nursing, Payap University in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Kanyapat is an instructor in health education process at Schools and Communities in Chiang Mai. Her background is in Nurse Education and Health Promotion. She is interested in developing the effective educational methods and educational innovations to develop and encourage learners\u2019 skills.
