I am pleased to announce that the first tool in this suite, the Research Data Catalogue is now live.<\/p>\n<p>The Research Data Catalogue is facilitated by\u00a0a new item type \u2013 \u201cResearch Dataset Record\u201d \u2013 in <a href=\"http:\/\/oro.open.ac.uk\/\">ORO<\/a>, the OU\u2019s institutional repository. At this stage, ORO can only accept records which describe research datasets (what they are and how they can be accessed) the datasets themselves should not be deposited in ORO.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>This will benefit both OU researchers and the university as a whole by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Enabling researchers to comply with funder policies and expectations for Research Data Management<\/li>\n<li>Providing a means to link research publications to their underlying data<\/li>\n<li>Increasing the visibility of OU research<\/li>\n<li>Facilitating faster responses to Freedom of Information requests<\/li>\n<li>Allowing the University to monitor the creation of research data in order to provide support to researchers at key points during the research data lifecycle<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div style=\"float: right; padding: 8px; margin: 8px; border: solid 1px #DDDDDD;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/per\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/tower.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-5427 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/per\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/tower.jpg\" alt=\"tower\" width=\"215\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/per\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/tower.jpg 215w, https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/per\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/tower-107x150.jpg 107w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 215px) 100vw, 215px\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p><strong>Our first record\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In December\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.open.ac.uk\/blogs\/per\/?p=265\">Dr Ann Grand<\/a>, Research Associate on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www3.open.ac.uk\/media\/fullstory.aspx?id=23266\">Catalyst project<\/a>, created <a href=\"http:\/\/oro.open.ac.uk\/41364\/\">the first\u00a0research data record in ORO.<\/a> This has enabled the project team\u00a0to include a\u00a0link to the ORO record in the data access statement for\u00a0a publication which they have submitted to the journal <a href=\"http:\/\/www.plosone.org\/\">PLOS One<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0number of funders (including RCUK) and publishers\u00a0require a data access statement to be included in publications.
