Right, I’ve pulled my data to pieces, word by word. Not sure how useful that was. Time wil tell. Now I’ve read through the majority of my notes for the last six months, and I’ve made a list of ways to come at this data. I’ve listed them below so I won’t lose them.<\/p>\n

Questions

\n<\/font><\/font>How do they acknowledge \/ react to M?
\n<\/font><\/font>Are they supported or hindered by the \u2018real world\u2019?
\n<\/font><\/font>Where are their networks \/ weak ties?
\n<\/font><\/font>Do I see them gaining trust and respect? Do they demonstrate reliability and ability?
\n<\/font><\/font>What types of thing are praised by the group?
\n<\/font><\/font>What forms of validation are there? Which ideas are valued and respected?
\n<\/font><\/font>Which ideas and suggestions are ignored?
\n<\/font><\/font>How do they work to establish identities?
\n<\/font><\/font>Which stories are being rehearsed?
\n<\/font><\/font>How embodied is it? (Interesting, but possibly irrelevant)
\n<\/font><\/font>Are identities mobilised to support learning?
\n<\/font><\/font>How is identity established?
\n<\/font><\/font>What are the backstage areas, and how are they used?
\n<\/font><\/font>When do people first model each online skill? Which are taken up?<\/font><\/font>

\n<\/strong><\/font><\/font>Who creates the subject positions? OU? BPS? Students? Tutors?<\/font><\/font>
\nWhich identities\/positions are readily taken up? Eg nervous, unsure.

\n<\/strong><\/font><\/font>Do their emotions relate to their engagement?
\n<\/font><\/font>What informal relations do I see developing?
\n<\/font><\/font>Is the effectiveness of the group in any way related to social interaction?
\n<\/font><\/font>Playfulness \/ informality \/ nonsense \/ off-topic discussion.
\n<\/font><\/font>Follow up
\n<\/strong><\/font><\/font>Lapadat \u2013 the advantages of asynchronicity. Are these borne out here?
\n<\/font><\/font>Find out more about interpretative repertoires.
\n<\/font><\/font>Weinberger on social scripts \u2013 I think this is like modelling behaviours. Check.
