Not sure how useful that was. Time wil tell. Now I&#8217;ve read through the majority of my notes for the last six months, and I&#8217;ve made a list of ways to come at this data. I&#8217;ve listed them below so I won&#8217;t lose them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Questions<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">Are they happy online?<br \/>\n<\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">How do they acknowledge \/ react to M?<br \/>\n<\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">Are they supported or hindered by the \u2018real world\u2019?<br \/>\n<\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">Where are their networks \/ weak ties?<br \/>\n<\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">Do I see them gaining trust and respect? Do they demonstrate reliability and ability?<br \/>\n<\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">What types of thing are praised by the group?<br \/>\n<\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">What forms of validation are there? Which ideas are valued and respected?<br \/>\n<\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">Which ideas and suggestions are ignored?<br \/>\n<\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">How do they work to establish identities?<br \/>\n<\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">Which stories are being rehearsed?<br \/>\n<\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">How embodied is it? (Interesting, but possibly irrelevant)<br \/>\n<\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">Are identities mobilised to support learning?<br \/>\n<\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">How is identity established?<br \/>\n<\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">What are the backstage areas, and how are they used?<br \/>\n<\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">When do people first model each online skill? Which are taken up?<\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\"><br \/>\n<strong>Identities<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">Who creates the subject positions? OU? BPS? Students? Tutors?<\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\"><br \/>\nWhich identities\/positions are readily taken up? Eg nervous, unsure.<br \/>\n<\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">Online identities: suckers, newbies, social loafers<br \/>\n<\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">Is this text or identity? How do they treat it?<br \/>\n<\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">Constructing identity via projection of beliefs \/ expectations \/ social states (Crook).<br \/>\n<\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\"><strong>Approaches\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><\/strong><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0cm 0cm 5pt; line-height: normal\"><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">Follow the trajectories of individual students. When are they involved? Who with?<br \/>\n<\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">Key incidents: breakdown, Xmas, M, deadlines<br \/>\n<\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">Social network theory: Haythornthwaite<br \/>\n<\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">Prototype theory<br \/>\n<\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\"><strong>Informality<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">Do their emotions relate to their engagement?<br \/>\n<\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">What informal relations do I see developing?<br \/>\n<\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">Is the effectiveness of the group in any way related to social interaction?<br \/>\n<\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">Playfulness \/ informality \/ nonsense \/ off-topic discussion.<br \/>\n<\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\"><strong>Follow up<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">Lapadat \u2013 the advantages of asynchronicity. Are these borne out here?<br \/>\n<\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">Find out more about interpretative repertoires.<br \/>\n<\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">Weinberger on social scripts \u2013 I think this is like modelling behaviours. Check.<br \/>\n<\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">Do I see clarification \/ elaboration \/ interpretation? \u2013 other criteria CF Mercer.<br \/>\n<\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">Schrire on higher-order thinking. What evidence of that is visible?<\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\"><br \/>\nMurphy\u2019s graded classification of collaboration.<br \/>\n<\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">Burnett \u2013 who don\u2019t they accept info from? Who gets ignored? M??<\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\"><br \/>\n<strong>Learning community \/ Community of practice<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">What makes this a learning community or a CoP? Find a definition.<br \/>\n<\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">Seems to have all the aspects of a CoP except for being voluntary.<br \/>\n<\/font><\/font><font size=\"3\"><font face=\"Times New Roman\">Do they articulate their purpose \/ goal?
