The research was initially funded by the European Commission through their H2020 programme, which enabled the <a href=\"https:\/\/retopea.eu\/s\/start\/page\/home\" onclick=\"javascript:urchinTracker ('\/outbound\/article\/retopea.eu');\">RETOPEA<\/a> team to run pilot workshops in the UK, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Estonia, North Macedonia, Finland and Poland. Since then, \u00a0through funding from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cstg.org.uk\" onclick=\"javascript:urchinTracker ('\/outbound\/article\/www.cstg.org.uk');\">Culham St Gabriel<\/a> and the Open University\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/societal-challenges.open.ac.uk\" >Open Societal Challenges<\/a> programme, we have been able further to pilot the approach in England and Northern Ireland, and in the Muslim majority countries of Albania and Jordan. The feedback from participating young people and from other stakeholders has been overwhelmingly positive.<\/p>\n<table style=\"height: 193px;\" width=\"625\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"text-align: center;\" width=\"200\">\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong><em>&#8220;The discussions we had opened up new thoughts about religious tolerance, and #800000;\"><strong><em>&#8220;My views are the same but this has allowed me to express them better.&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/td>\n<td width=\"200\">\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong><em>&#8220;The research helped me to understand worldwide religious stereotypes, how conflict makes these worse, and elements of religious tolerance.&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h1><span style=\"font-size: 1rem; color: #800000;\">The Docutube method supports young people to\u200b:<\/span><\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li><em>move beyond generalisations and\u00a0stereotypes about religious diversity<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>learn with history<\/em><em>\u200b<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>make constructive and critical\u00a0connections between past, present\u00a0and their own experiences<\/em><em>\u200b<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>think \u2018outside of the box\u2019 about\u00a0religious toleration and peace<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>develop cultural, religious and historical literacy<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>work in teams, valuing each other\u2019s perspectives and skills<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>gain filmmaking skills<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Partners currently include UK schools in England, Northern Ireland, and Wales, organisations such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosecastlefoundation.org)\" onclick=\"javascript:urchinTracker ('\/outbound\/article\/www.rosecastlefoundation.org)');\">Rose Castle Foundation<\/a>, United Religions Initiative, the <a href=\"https:\/\/riifs.org\/en\/\" onclick=\"javascript:urchinTracker ('\/outbound\/article\/riifs.org');\">Royal Institute for Inter-Faith Studies<\/a> in Amman, Jordan <strong>from the original RETOPEA project can be seen at\u00a0 <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.retopea.eu\" onclick=\"javascript:urchinTracker ('\/outbound\/article\/www.retopea.eu');\"><strong>www.retopea.eu<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3><em><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><strong>Badged Open Course<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/h3>\n<p>The\u00a0 Docutube method aims to help young people think\u00a0<em>with <\/em>history about religious diversity in the present day. The Docutube workshops provide\u00a0a \u2018safe\u2019 and creative space where young people can discuss and work together to engage with complex and sometimes controversial topics, such as migration, prejudice, toleration\u00a0and peace.<\/p>\n<p>The RETOPEA team have\u00a0developed an online collection of over four hundred accessible historical and contemporary sources. Young people are asked to engage with these critically through the process of making their short documentary-style films. The Docutube workshop usually take place over 14 hours (for example, over three days as part of a project week or over more extended periods integrated into regular classroom teaching). The material is appropriate for RE, History, Philosophy\/Ethics or for civic education.<\/p>\n<p>The OU team have produced a free online <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.open.edu\/openlearn\/history-the-arts\/religious-studies\/young-people-and-religion-creative-learning-history\/content-section-overview?active-tab=description-tab\"style=\"color: #ff0000;\"  onclick=\"javascript:urchinTracker ('\/outbound\/article\/www.open.edu');\"><strong>Badged Open Course<\/strong><\/a><\/span> that supports\u00a0teachers, youth workers to use the Docutube method in their \u00a0own teaching<\/p>\n<p><a
