Level 3 Understanding Principles and Practice of Assessment

Who is it for?

To achieve this knowledge-only award you should be at the start of your journey as an assessor or need to know about assessment practice but are not currently practicing. This is an ideal qualification if you are an aspiring assessor or a manager, HR or quality assurance personnel looking for a professional development qualification.

This award allows anyone who is interested in or needs to know about assessment and quality assurance – but is not a practitioner – to acquire knowledge and information about the processes.

What topics does the qualification cover?

'Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment' requires you to know and understand the principles and practices that underpin assessment. This is evidenced through a written account demonstrating your knowledge and understanding and completing a workbook that shows research into assessment practice and associated legal requirements.

Programme structure

You will provide evidence of your knowledge and understanding, including completing assignments, case studies, written accounts and providing work products. Evidence is uploaded to an e-portfolio which is available 24/7 on computers, tablets and mobile devices.

You will have access through VQLearner Home to online resources specific to your qualification and links to suggested further study with The Open University.

Support will be provided throughout the qualification by the VQAC Learner Support Team.
