Level 3 Children & Young People's Workforce (Social Care)

Who is it for?

To achieve this qualification, you will be working in a health or social care setting with children and young people in a wide range of settings, for example in the roles of:

  • Care worker
  • Childminder
  • Early years practitioners
  • Youth and community worker
  • Foster Carers
  • Children and Families Social Workers
  • Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service Advisers

What topics does the qualification cover?

The mandatory units cover the following key aspects of children and young people’s social care:

  • Personal Development
  • Communication
  • Equality and Inclusion
  • Duty of Care
  • Understanding and promoting child and young people’s development
  • Working together for the benefit of children and young people
  • Developing positive relationships with children young people and those involved in your care
  • Understanding how to support positive outcomes for children and young people
  • Assessment and planning with children and young people
  • Promote the well being and resilience of children and young people
  • Professional practice in children and young people’s social care

A range of optional units to choose from covers a variety of tasks and skills to meet the requirements of a range of work roles.

Programme structure

You will provide evidence of your work practice, including completing assignments, case studies, written accounts and providing work products. Evidence is uploaded to an e-portfolio which is available 24/7 on computers, tablets and mobile devices.

An Open University assessor will observe work-based practice on at least one occasion, assess evidence uploaded to the e-portfolio and provide developmental feedback.

You will have access through VQLearner Home to online resources specific to your qualification and links to suggested further study with The Open University.

Support will be provided throughout the qualification by the VQAC Learner Support Team.
